Feng Shui – Tips for Emotional Health and Stability

Feng ShuiHow to maximize your energy through arrangement of your home? Here is traditional Chinese method called feng shui which helps in proper placement of furniture.
Feng shui is not only used as interior decoration but is also beneficial to energize your body.
With the help of feng shui you can create and bring whatever you need into your lives by following the patterns of nature.
There are usually four elements for every other culture such as earth, air, fire and water, but feng shui uses the fifth element called metal. The combination of these 5 elements along with the use of furniture placement, lightning, sounds and smells promote your well-being on different levels.
In order to achieve your well-being you must have at least a basic knowledge of qi. Sometimes it is pronounced as Chi. Qi is the life force that surrounds and binds us and it can be found in everything. Feng shui helps to heal, balance and enrich your lives.
For instance, the placement of furniture in your home provides either a path or block for qi to move through. That’s why having energy paths in your house is most important, as important as finding and destroying of poison arrows, or sharp corners within the house.
Chinese proved that by placing in a qi pleasing way, around the home, within the office, or even out in the garden, you can achieve a better level of health in career, home, success, and wealth. It also promotes creativity, positive social relationship, contemplation, self-confidence, and respect for others.
Feng shui is not only considered as a way of decorating your house but also can be considered as a preventative medicine. The first thing you have to do to start with feng shui is remove all the clutter from your house.
Remove the things that you don’t need with a rigorous house cleaning. The existence of clutter in your home creates some form of dullness and with this you will experience depression or a sense of being stuck or incapable of moving forward with plans for your life.
Bagua map helps you in determining the exact location and part of your life that the clutter is directly affecting, because different corners of your home will affect different parts of your life. This map helps in determining the energy flow throughout the home and in other living places.
Some of the design views of feng shui include:
  • Arranging the doors on adjoining walls. It will encourage a circular movement of qi that is considered as relaxing and good feng shui.
  • Arranging beds, sofas, chairs or seating with their backs to the doors or windows is not suggested in feng shui.
  • Choose the front of your home in an appropriate size in proportion to your home. Too large or too small will not assist proper qi flow through the home.

The Role Of Biofeedback In Promoting Positive Changes In Your Life!

How to control the spontaneous changes and stress in your life?
Here is an alternative therapy called biofeedback which helps you a lot in controlling all the aspects of your life.
Biofeedback uses the power of your mind to control your body.

Biofeedback is considered as a machine that works in the same way as a thermometer or scale.
Thermometer can be used to determine if you have a fever. Depending on the temperature you decide how you want to handle it. It is a non-invasive approach and considered as mind-body therapy.
There are two key elements involved in the practice of biofeedback, one is monitoring machine and the other is human response. These are very important to its success.
For the effectiveness of biofeedback the monitoring system must be able to signal the individual when the body is not functioning as expected.

Working of biofeedback:

Biofeedback therapy works for those who want to understand and control the aspects of their body which are usually beneath their level of consciousness.
Biofeedback uses techniques and computerized instruments to indentify information about restrained, spontaneous psychological changes within your body such as muscle tension, sweating, increased heart rate and shallow breathing.
During the biofeedback session, your practitioner places sensors on different parts of the body to observe your response to stress.
This information captured by sensors is supplied back to you by means of visual and audio cues, such as computerized display or a tone that changes frequency.
By using this feedback your therapist can help you learn to control your responses to reduce your symptoms such as slowing your breathe to reduce anxiety.
The healing usually requires six to twenty sessions depending on your condition. Once you learned you can use the same techniques in your home without any equipment.

Benefits of biofeedback:

  • Biofeedback therapists help you in learning to control the spontaneous responses to promote positive changes in your health, such as fever headaches or low blood pressure.
  • It helps you learn how to listen and control your body. There are exercises and techniques used to adjust your body’s rhythm.
  • Biofeedback helps in you in changing your own brain patterns, the ability to decrease your own blood pressure without the use of prescription medications.
  • Biofeedback can be used to treat many health conditions including anxiety, asthma, backaches, chronic pain, constipation, dangerous rhythms of heartbeat, diabetes, digestive disorders, head injuries, high blood pressure, migraines, reconditioning the muscles, sexual disorders, spinal cord injuries, stress reduction, and teeth grinding.
  • It helps to control involuntary conditions of the nervous and circulatory systems.
In order to achieve better results you must stick to restricted eating habits and exercise habits and change your stressful lifestyle. Relaxation is the key in biofeedback, but not yet determined how it works.
This is considered as a safe technique and there are no side effects. You must be careful in selecting a practitioner for this type of treatment. Do as much research as possible and know all about the treatment before you start taking it.

What Is Sonopuncture and What Is it Useful For? part 2

It is known as Sonopuncture or Acutonics (also Vibrational medicine according to some practitioners) and the principle is the same as that of acupuncture, stimulating the body to heal itself by certain types of manipulation.
However where acupuncture uses needles, sonopuncture uses sound waves to produce the same kind of results.
SonopunctureLike acupuncture, sonopuncture also uses the traditional understanding of the body being divided into meridians and tries to stimulate the Qi (chi) to heal the body.
There are certain tools used for sonopuncture, chief among them being the tuning fork, which, it is thought is tuned in accordance with the solar system’s harmonics.
In a sense this alternative treatment is also connected to music therapy, since here as well, is attributed as having healing properties.
The attempt is to use specifically made sound heads that generate uniform beams of cylindrical ultrasound and the tools are usually handcrafted.
The ultrasound stimulation is applied to the specific acupuncture points for a minute or less. Ultrasound waves can penetrate deep into the body’s tissues to generate healing and this therapy is thought to be suitable for anyone.
Sonopuncture practitioners can use a variety of different instruments to offer healing – not just specially crafted tuning forks but also, chimes, Tibetan bowls, electronic devices that emit sound or even musical instruments may be used to target the patient’s energy field.
The therapy can be used as a stand along method of healing or as a complementary treatment. It is often used in conjunction with acupuncture, particularly for those acupuncture points that may cause some pain.

Sonopuncture can be used to address a variety of different issues

Infections

Certain infections, it is thought may note improvement with the help of sonopuncture. The aim of the therapy is to manipulate the body’s energy fields and to stimulate the body’s own immune systems and thereby fight infection.

Spinal problems

Sonopuncture therapists claim to be able to resolve certain spine related problems with the help of this therapy.

Asthma and bronchial problems

Sonopuncture is also thought to be useful in asthma management in order to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks, as well as to treat other bronchial and related problems.

The McKenzie Method – A Natural Therapy for Conventional Medicine

The McKenzie Method is a popular form of therapy used by many physical therapists, chiropractors and other health care professionals. It actively involves the patient with a series of specific exercises designed to relieve back and neck pain. Many of the exercises can be performed at home following formal instruction, which allows patients on going care to prevent further flare ups.

History

The McKenzie Method was developed by a physical therapist from New Zealand named Robin McKenzie, in the 1960’s. McKenzie believed that he could reduce pain levels in his patients by extending the spine with a prescribed method. He found his program helped his patients significantly, so much that they were able to return to their normal daily activities.
He formalized this program, and it is now used by those in the medical field everywhere.
The McKenzie Method

Uses

Following a thorough assessment in which it is determined whether or not the patient is truly a candidate for McKenzie method, initial treatments can begin.
It is used mainly for those with chronic neck and back pain, which may be of a degenerative nature or stress-related. It is typically not indicated for those who have had severe spinal injuries or back surgery. For this reason, it is important to undergo a formal spinal consultation before trying this form of treatment.

What to Expect

During an assessment, the practitioner will typically ask questions such as:
  • Is your pain better or worse when sitting?
  • Is your pain better or worse when bending over?
  • Is your pain better or worse when walking?
  • Is your pain better or worse when lying down?
  • Do you have any sleep disturbances?
  • Have you had any major surgery?
  • Have you had any recent accidents?
All of these questions are normal and will help the therapist determine if you can benefit from this treatment method.
Following the assessment is a thorough physical examination. This includes checking your reflexes and motor skills, documenting your pain level from various movements, and observing your posture and body position both sitting and standing.
These tests will help the therapist come up with a treatment plan specific to your condition.

Method

There are a number of exercises used in a McKenzie session. Your therapist will customize a program that works for you. Many exercises will be familiar to you, and some are even reminiscent of yoga and other styles of exercise.
Examples:
Standing forward bend – Stand with your feet together. Reach up over head, and then drop the hands down, reaching for the feet. Allow your head to hang and just relax.
Seated forward bend – Sit upright on the floor with your legs outstretched. Walk your hands forward toward your feet. Drop the head slightly and just relax. Hold for up to one minute.
Lying spine extension – Lie flat on your stomach. Place your hands under your shoulders. Push into the floor and lift the upper body up, looking slightly forward. Hold for up to one minute.
Single leg stretch – Lie flat on your back. Raise the right leg up and reach for the leg with your hands. Gently pull it into the body. Keep the legs straight and the back flat on the floor. Repeat the exercise on the left leg.
Spinal flexion – Lie on the floor on your back. Bend both knees and hug them into the chest, using your arms. Keep your head on the floor, and your neck relaxed. Hold for up to one minute.
Seated neck stretch – Sit upright in a chair.Keep your hands at your sides and your feet flat on the floor. Drop your chin to your chest and lengthen the back of the neck. Hold for up to one minute.

Benefits

Unlike many conventional medical treatments which rely solely on the therapist or practitioner, the ultimate goal of the McKenzie Method is to educate the patient and allow them to continue self-treatments. The method can be used to both treat and prevent chronic neck and back pain.
While many think of the McKenzie method as just another form of exercises, it is really a total system of assessment and treatment used by therapists who have undergone specific training. If interested in trying the McKenzie method for your neck or back pain, seek out a licensed health care practitioner who is trained and certified in McKenzie Method.
